Verizon’s Incredible new phone may be in stores within ‘two weeks’

It’s a mighty aggressive schedule for a handset that hasn’t even been announced yet, but the latest scuttlebutt regarding the HTC Incredible suggests that the phone will make its debut on Verizon’s airwaves about two weeks from now. It was already known that the Incredible was destined for a rendezvous with Big Red, but this latest word solidifies and specifies that future nicely — and it’s claimed to come directly from internal sources at Verizon. Samsung Galaxy Spica grows up to Android 2.1

Also known as the Galaxy Portal in the UK, Samsung’s i5700 is today officially entering the Eclair portion of its Android existence. We got a nice leak of the 2.1 ROM in February, whose small glitches will no doubt have been ironed out in this official release. You’ll need to either hook up to the Samsung neural network using their proprietary PC Studio 7 software to leech the upgrade or just buy a new handset Read More...

Switched On: Halting Total Customization

Each week Ross Rubin contributes Switched On, a column about consumer technology.

Throughout the histories of Windows Mobile and Android, many handset developers have talked the talk of supporting these mobile operating systems, dribbling out a couple of handsets per year as they focused on other priorities. But not HTC. The company has created more Windows Mobile and Android handsets than companies many times its size, and in fact developed the very first Android handset. Microsoft Read More...

Leaked slide points to March 17th launch, $99 price for Motorola CLIQ XT

Motorola already said that its new CLIQ XT Android phone would be available sometime this month when it let us get our hands on the phone last week, but it unfortunately didn’t get very specific about an actual date or a price. If this seemingly authentic slide obtained by TmoToday is any indication, however, it looks like the Blur-skinned handset will hit retail on March 17th (tomorrow), and run $99 on a two-year contract (or Read More...

Samsung acquires ‘Android’ trademark for mobile hardware sales in Korea

As it turns out, Korea operates two separate trademark systems for hardware and software. So while this doesn’t affect Android OS and its distribution, Samsung’s recent acquisition of the Android hardware trademark does forbid other manufacturers from releasing Android-branded devices — whether they be a mobile phone, a PMP, PDA, GPS, DMB, or any other snappily titled mobile computer — into the Korean market. This will be felt by local competitors like LG, who has Read More...

BlackBerry 9900/9930 slider hitting Sprint?

One of our solid connects told us some pretty interesting information regarding the BlackBerry slider device.

According to them, the device actually failed in early diagnostic testing a whopping 4 out of 5 times (which is supposed to be extremely rare for RIM devices). The only other handset that failed, we’re told, is the BlackBerry Pearl Flip. What’s even more interesting, is that the BlackBerry slider our guy saw was Sprint branded. Want to go Read More...
